Man Tells How Donald Trump Saved His Life

(RightWing.org) – Former President Donald Trump launched several bold initiatives to combat major diseases and save lives during his term in office. For instance, on July 10, 2019, he issued an executive order “advancing American kidney health.” The order directed the Secretary of Health and Human Services to develop proposals for research regarding the treatment of kidney disease, namely to increase patient treatment alternatives and boost the public’s access to transplants. A noted conservative journalist recently published a heartwarming account of how Trump’s directive saved his life.

Conservative columnist Bill Robinson published a two-part article on Newsmax beginning on January 23. He described his close encounter with death, starting with a visit to the emergency room with dangerously high blood pressure in early 2017. Doctors subsequently diagnosed him with chronic kidney disease (CKD), a life-threatening disease that typically leads to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) — which is the case for Robinson.

After spending nearly three years on dialysis, Robinson received a phone call from a medical center in late 2019. “We’d like to offer you a kidney,” a transplant coordinator declared.

Continuing his story, Robinson wrote he recently had the opportunity to interview Trump and blurted out a heartfelt thanks to the former president for “saving my life and thousands of others.”

Robinson told the president he had already spent more than two years hooked to machines waiting for a new kidney when Trump signed his executive order. Six months later, doctors successfully performed transplant surgery.

“I got that kidney from a new Hepatitis C clinical trial program… kicked into high gear by your order,” Robinson explained. President Trump responded by asking him about his recovery since then.

Robinson replied, “It’s a brand new world for me.”

Mr. Robinson had an opportunity later in the interview to ask Trump what prompted his decision to sign the executive order. “Did you have friends or a family member [suffering from] kidney failure,” he asked.

Trump responded that he had known several people suffering from kidney disease “over the years.” He explained he thought something could be done to improve the available treatment options.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lists kidney disease as a leading cause of death in the US. Roughly 37 million individuals suffer from some form of CKD, most undiagnosed.
