(RightWing.org) – The American Conservative Union hosted its annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) from February 21 to 24. The four-day gala included lectures and speeches from noted conservative journalists like Steve Bannon, Mark Levin, Jack Posobiec, and Megyn Kelly.
Several Republicans on former President Donald Trump’s shortlist for running mate spoke at the conference, including Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Democratic Hawaii representative turned independent Tulsi Gabbard. Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) remained in his home state to support Trump as South Carolina held its Republican primary. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) opted to skip CPAC for reasons unknown.
Gabbard presented an enthusiastic defense of Trump as he faces increasingly harsh criticism from various sources.
Tulsi Gabbard Defends President Trump During Fiery CPAC Speech
Gabbard gave a fiery overview of the recent attacks on Trump led by Democrats, election officials, local and federal prosecutors, and Washington elites. She warned attendees that American democracy itself “is under attack,” adding that the “perpetrators” of those assaults are destroying the country. Gabbard noted that anyone “who loves this country and… cherished freedom” should be alarmed by Trump’s opponents and their “insatiable hunger for power.”
The former Democrat presented several examples of that un-American behavior. For instance, she discussed the “multi-front battle” launched by Turmp’s opponents to rob the American people of the right to choose the country’s next president using a free and fair election. “Colorado, Maine,” a total of “32 states” have taken some form of action “to remove the leading Republican candidate for president” from the ballots, “in defiance of the Constitution.”
Turning her attention to Trump’s legal woes, Gabbard talked about the unprecedented attack launched by the former president’s political rivals. She noted his 91 felony charges, 44 filed by Attorney General Merrick Garland’s prosecutors and 47 by state authorities.
Gabbard presented a particularly harsh view of the recent ruling handed down by a New York Judge at the request of the state’s Democratic Attorney General Letitia James. Gabbard noted the absurdity of the judge’s imposition of a $355 million fine plus nearly $100 million in interest “for a business transaction” without a “victim or complaint.” She reminded attendees that “all parties made money” while conducting business with the Trump Organization.
Gabbard concluded her speech by telling CPAC attendees that they must come together and work with their “brothers and sisters who agree with us” and reach out to others who love America. She stressed the importance of building bridges with patriots regardless of their party affiliation. “We must stand together as fellow Americans who cherish peace and freedom” and save the country.
