FBI Data Reveals Crime Dropped by Historic Levels

(RightWing.org) – The Biden administration says crime has fallen dramatically in the first quarter of this year. According to the latest FBI figures there’s been a “historic” drop in violent crime and murder. President Biden’s campaign is already trying to grab credit for this.

On June 10, the FBI released the latest update to its quarterly Uniform Crime Reporting Data. The Bureau compiles this from data supplied by state and local law enforcement agencies to give a picture of crime rates across the country. The latest figures aren’t complete — the FBI says so far 72% of agencies have supplied statistics, and it will release more detailed information when that reaches 80%. However, even with the numbers so far there’s an impressive picture of falling crime rates.

According to the report, overall violent crime fell by 15.2% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to January-March 2023. Murder is down by a huge 26.4%, rape by 25.7%, robbery by 17.8%, and aggravated assault by a still impressive 12.5%. The Bureau also says property crime has fallen by 15.1%. The FBI will release the numbers of each crime type when it reaches the 80% data threshold.

Attorney General Merrick Garland immediately jumped on the data to claim the Biden administration is reducing crime. In a statement, Garland said the figures show “last year’s historic decline in violent crime is continuing.” Biden campaign spokeswoman Ammar Moussa quickly joined in, saying Biden has “worked hard to clean up” the mess left by the previous administration.

The reality is that the US saw a dramatic spike in murder rates in 2020, accompanied by a summer of leftist-led riots and violence. There was a smaller, but still significant, rise in 2021. It’s only now, at the end of Biden’s term, that our murder rate is falling back to where it was through most of the Trump administration.
