(RightWing.org) – Even the Biden administration can do the right thing sometimes. The Department of Justice is interviewing survivors of the October 7 massacre in Israel to collect evidence about what happened that day. The aim is to build a case against the funders of Hamas, the Islamist terror group that carried out the atrocities.
Justice Department investigators are interviewing survivors of the Hamas assault on Israel, and the families of those who died, to gather evidence on the perpetrators. The DoJ wants to build a case against both Hamas itself and those who finance it. According to sources connected with the investigation, one thing it’s looking at is money the extremist group gets from sympathetic states — mainly Qatar and Iran.
They’re also looking at whether any US financial institutions are in the Hamas financing chain, and seeking out Hamas assets in the US. That suggests that as well as prosecutions, they’re looking at the possibility of seizing Hamas funds.
The sources report that some of those interviewed are US citizens who were caught up in the attacks or the families of the 31 Americans who died. At least six Americans taken hostage by Hamas are still missing.
The fact US citizens were targeted gives the Justice Department more options in pursuing the terror group; although the massacre happened off US soil, the government has a long track record of pursuing and prosecuting terrorists who attack Americans. It also doesn’t hesitate to seize funds or assets.
Iran is Hamas’s main sponsor, and so far this year US prosecutors have seized well over $100 million worth of Iranian cash and assets in retaliation for the rogue state’s support of anti-Israel terrorists. In February, the government said billions of dollars earned from illegal sales of Iranian oil had gone through the US financial system.
If investigators can come up with solid evidence Iran was linked to the October 7 attacks, rapid action against Iranian oil trading is likely to follow.
