(RightWing.org) – New York is an expensive place to live, and Governor Kathy Hochul (D) is planning to make it even worse by pushing up taxes. Even as the state’s residents struggle, she’s planning to spend over $2 billion looking after illegal immigrants. Even worse, the state doesn’t seem able to explain where all that money is going.
On March 26, Governor Hochul released her latest budget proposal. Among the $233 billion she plans to spend there’s $2.4 billion allocated to the illegal migration crisis that’s overwhelming the state in general and New York City — which is in line for $1.1 billion of the extra spending — in particular.
NYC mayor Eric Adams (D) has been calling for extra funding from Hochul and the federal government as his city’s welfare systems collapse under a tide of illegal immigrants; homeless shelters were full months ago, and thousands of illegals are being accommodated in hotels. The cost of those hotels — at around $150 per person per day — is just one of the things the state’s taxpayers are being forced to subsidize.
Commentator Howie Carr has unearthed a list of other giveaways the migrants are getting, including free healthcare, cell phones, iPads, and clothing. Many things Americans have to pay for, including toiletries and public transportation, are cost-free for migrants. The full list of giveaways helps explain why Hochul plans to spend so much on top of the $1.9 million she spent on illegals last year.
To pay for all the handouts to illegals, Hochul is closing five prisons — meaning more criminals will be released early — and bringing in a range of new taxes. These include a levy on vacation rentals and a $1.50 daily fee for convention center hotels. With many New Yorkers already struggling, a lot of them will be unhappy about paying more to subsidize people who shouldn’t even be in this country.
