(RightWing.org) – Joe Biden and Donald Trump recently received enough delegates through the primary season to become their respective party’s nominee, changing the dynamics of the remainder of the campaign cycle and the media’s coverage of the two men. An ABC News host quickly came to Biden’s aid during a recent newscast, defaming Trump along the way. However, the former president recently filed a lawsuit against the woke journalist and former Democratic operative.
On March 18, one of Trump’s lawyers filed a complaint and demanded a jury trial against American Broadcasting Companies, Inc., ABC News, Inc., and George Stephanopoulos. The 20-page document accuses the defendants of transmitting and publishing “intentionally false and defamatory statements” about Trump to several third parties.
The pleading sites Stephanopoulos’ remarks to Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) during the March 10 airing of his ABC News program, “This Week With George Stephanopoulos.” The news host questioned the representative about her decision to endorse Trump even though “multiple juries” found the former president “liable… for the rape of Ms. E. Jean Carroll.”
Trump’s lawyer, Alejandro Brito, pointed out those assertions “were and remain false.” He also accused Stephanopoulos of acting “with a reckless disregard for the truth” or “actual malice” since he knew his remarks were “patently and demonstrably false.”
Brito explained that the jury determined that Trump “did not commit rape.” Continuing, it alleged that Stephanopoulos “was aware of the jury’s finding” in that case “yet still falsely stated otherwise.”
The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages and court costs. It also asked for any other relief the judge overseeing the case “deems just and proper.”
Detractors quickly lashed out at Trump and his lawyer, accusing them of filing the case in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida instead of New York City, where ABC News is headquartered. More to the point, they accused them of trying to get District Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee, assigned to the case.
As longtime Trump rival and Lincoln Project co-founder George Conway pointed out on X/Twitter, there’s one small problem with that logic. Had Trump been judge-shopping for Cannon, he would have filed his lawsuit in Palm Beach. Instead, his attorney filed the case in Miami.
